#77 - Pick Up Something Fun at LaToys Etcetera

Cedarhurst store carries a huge selection of board games and other toys.

The owners of claim to have one of the biggest and most comprehensive inventory of family board games in Nassau County, which just might be true judging from the hundreds of titles shelved from floor to ceiling. The store carries all the classics, as well as a lot of rare and educational games as well.

Of course, LaToys has all the timeless classics — Scrabble, Life, Rummikub and many versions of Monopoly. Some of the newer hit games are Zingo, Bananagrams, Perpetual Motion and Snatch. Even more interesting are the games you can’t find at just any toy store, like the fast-moving dice game Granny’s Apples and Totally Gross, a science trivia game. Either way, there’s a big assortment for toddlers, kids, teens and adults.

LaToys also specializes in Playmobil figurine and playsets, a perennial favorite of kids for many years.

But there’s plenty to choose from apart from games, including craft kits, plush toys, puzzles, magnet sets and Legos. Right now is a good time to choose from the big variety of outdoor products like lawn games, water toys, scooters, balls and kites.

Besides games and toys, the store is filled with plenty of other things that kids like, such as books, jewelry boxes, backpacks, purses, novelties and collectibles. The owners are also always bringing in new things that will appeal to their older customers — preteens and even teens.

As opposed to many other toy stores, customer service is key at LaToys, providing one-on-one attention to shoppers who need gift-wrapping, party favors, gift baskets, age-appropriate gift ideas, or those who observe the Sabbath and need games that don’t require batteries or writing.

Husband and wife owners, Jerry and Nancy Bloomberg, deal with more than 300 toy manufacturers, which explains how they stock such a huge variety of popular brands, as well as lesser-known unique items. For convenience, you can place your order over the phone or at www.latoysetc.com, which is well-organized by age and category.

Another big plus is that the store, located on Columbia Avenue in Cedarhurst, has ample street parking, as well as it’s own parking lot.
