Cedarhurst Hearts Minivans

Study shows village has largest percentage of family vehicles on Long Island.

Cedarhurst has the largest percentage of minivans in Nassau County, according to a recent Newsday article, which didn't seem to surprise shoppers on Central Avenue.

“We’re a family people," said Steve Litner, who was shopping with his daughter on Friday. "We need the room.”

The statistics, compiled for Newsday by the Michigan auto statistics company, stated that 13.3 percent, or 5,629, of Cedarhurst’s registered vehicles are minivans.

Mark Kalish, a Far Rockaway resident, said he drove his hybrid Highlander to Cedarhurst that day. He said there are many children in town and the minivan is “more praticial.” Kalish added that if you have a family and drive kids around, a parent is also driving their children’s friends or equipment.

“It just makes sense,” he said.
