Student Arrested for Bomb Threat at Yeshiva

Lawrence school was evacuated Tuesday morning after threat found on Facebook.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly posting a threat to blow up his Lawrence school on Facebook, leading to the evacuation of the building, police said.

The unnamed student was in school during the evacuation and was placed under arrest by police after his threats were reported to the principal by another student. The school, Mesivta Ateres Yaakov, was evacuated and the surrounding streets were shut down at about 9:45 a.m.

Police arrived after and searched the building and didn’t find anything. Classes resumed around noon.

The 16-year-old defendant is charged with making a terrorist threat and second-degree aggravated harassment. He will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

MTA police also responded to the scene due to the school's close proximity to Long Island Railroad tracks, the Nassau Herald reported.
