Mayor Andrew Parise was contacted by Nicole Miller, Special Education Teacher, Lori Sachs, Speech and Language Teacher, Dr. Karen Mackler, School Psychologist & their students from room 350 at the Lawrence Middle School, to join with them in trying to help build awareness, within the school and community about autism, and participate in “Light It Up Blue Day.”
“Light It Up Blue”, annually observed on April 2 is dedicated to raising awareness of autism. This initiative is intended to highlight the growing need for concern and awareness about autism. In the United States the whole month of April is National Autism Awareness Month.

So Mayor Parise, along with the Trustees, Village Staff & highway workers began measuring, cutting, creating & hanging over 200 blue bows.
When walking through our Cedarhurst Business District or Andrew J. Parise Park you will notice Blue Ribbons decorating all of our ornamental lightpoles. Mayor Parise and the Trustees encourage you to find out more and help to create “A Better World for Autism.”
