PAL - Wrestling

Do you know what George Washington, Robin Williams, Bruce Willis, Senator John McCain, Jay Leno, Ludacris, Tom Cruise or Ashton Kucher all had in common?

They were all high school wrestlers.....

Do you know what Troy Smith (University of Maryland) , Robert Rosenberg (Wesleyan College), Simon Greebel (Oswego State) and Lester Enriquez (Edinboro University) all have in common?

These four young men were part of the six year old Hewlett High School Wrestling Program who all were accepted into the college of their choice based upon their high school wrestling careers...

Did you know that the PAL wrestling program in the District is where these four former high school wrestlers learned the art of wrestling and where they all began their ascent in this sport?

Now is the time to enroll your child in the fastest growing sport in the District.

While wrestling is often a misunderstood sport here are just a few reasons why your child should be wrestling:
                      1)      To stay in shape – In the world of obesity, a sport that focuses on weight encourages people to watch what they eat.  Several studies have shown that people who weigh themselves daily are lighter than those who do not.                     2)      Never stop learning – At every practice you will learn something new, thus keeping both your body and your brain active.                     3)    To become flexible – Flexibility is key in life, especially as people start aging.  After contorting yourself into different shapes for a few weeks, you will feel yourself becoming more flexible.  This will carry over into every other sport your child participates in as an athlete.                      4)      Mental Toughness – Ask anyone with wrestling experience.  Going through a practice is not easy.  You must develop mental toughness to get through the vigorous workouts.  This translates to tasks like standing up for yourself at work.                     5)      Poise under pressure – You have to be able to handle the pressure of knowing that several people are watching you and your opponent grapple.  There is nowhere to hide on a wrestling mat.                     6)     Camaraderie – Like the great armies of Sparta, wrestlers have each others backs.  Any wrestler will tell you that the fraternity of warriors that you join will always be there for you.                     7)     Anyone can do it – Its not football or basketball where you have to be over 6′5 or 250 pounds to play.  No matter your age, weight, or gender you can succeed in wrestling.                      8)     You will have fun – That’s right, even with the hard workouts and sporadic pressure filled moments, you will have a great time.  You will learn a lot about other people, but more importantly, about yourself.

At the present time there are over 45 students preparing to wrestle for your high school. That's approximately the same number that traditionally sign up to play both varsity football and lacrosse....

Now is the time to provide your child with an amazing opportunity.....

Please see the PAL Flyer below and sign your young athlete up now!!!!!!!!
