Beastie Boys' Mike D Helps Feed Sandy Victims in Rockaways

Partners serve residents by way of food truck.

Mike D, a member of hip-hop group The Beastie Boys, has helped feed over 19,000 Rockaway Beach victims of Hurricane Sandy free of charge.

The New York rapper, real name Michael Diamond, and restauranteur Robert McKinley deliver the meals of chicken, beans, rice and vegetables via the Rockaway Plate Lunch food truck.

In an interview, Mike D told Good:

"Rob and I went out [to the Rockaways] very shortly after Sandy. We had no idea what was needed other than contractor bags, batteries, flashlights. ... We saw right away all these people living without any power, without any businesses being open, and therefore, no food."
