Commemorate Memorial Day at These Local Parades

Go out and honor our local veterans, active duty soldiers, firefighters, officers and others.

Memorial Day is a day to come out and pay tribute to our veterans, those soldiers who have fallen and to those soldiers who put their lives on the line every day for our country. It is also a time to honor your local police, fire department, town/village officials, schools, organizations, and, of course, the unofficial kick-off of summer.

The following is a list of local Memorial Day parades. (Please note: some parades are on Sunday).

Long Beach
Monday, 9:30 a.m.
The parade route will begin at Ohio Avenue and West Beech Street, ending at Kennedy Plaza in front of the Long Beach City Hall. Following the ceremonies, the City of Long Beach Police Department will celebrate its 100th anniversary with current and retired police officers at police headquarters.

Inwood
Sunday, 11:30 a.m.
Services will be at 10 a.m. at Inwood FD Headquarters, located at 188 Doughty Boulevard in Inwood. Parade steps off on Lord Avenue at 11:30 a.m., continuing north to Wanser Avenue, west to Doughty Boulevard, north to Mott Avenue and ending at the John J. Oliveri VFW Post.

Lawrence-Cedarhurst
Monday, 10:30 a.m.
Memorial will be held at the Lawrence train station, followed by the parade. The parade will proceed east on Central Avenue to the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, continuing on Central Avenue to Cedarhurst Avenue, to the veterans memorial in the Andrew J. Parise Park.

West Hempstead
Monday, 10 a.m.
Parade begins at Nassau Boulevard and Hempstead Avenue, along Hempstead Avenue to Roosevelt Boulevard, ending with a ceremony at Echo Park.

Rockville Centre
Monday, 10 a.m.
Parade begins on Maple Avenue and ends at Veterans Memorial Park on Oceanside Road for ceremonies at 11 a.m.

Malverne
Monday, 11 a.m.
Beginning at the gazebo in Reese Veterans Memorial Park (Utterby Road and Church Street) ceremony to honor the veterans. The parade will immediately follow ceremonies.

Lynbrook
Monday, 9:45 a.m.
Beginning at Charles Street, parade marches along Merrick Road and ends on Columbus Drive. A ceremony at the Dough Boy monument follows the parade.
