Hewlett HS Students Help Open Community Relief Center

The Hewlett-Woodmere Sandy relief collection and distribution center located at 8 and 10 Irving Place came alive as more than 20 high school students volunteered their time to arrange large quantities of clothing, cleaning supplies, baby goods and toys at the donated Woodmere storefronts.

Pictured with student volunteers are Hewlett-Woodmere School District Administrator Dr. Laura Seinfeld; Jerry Bloomberg of La Toys Etc., who delivered a truckload of new toys; Mrs. Panarelli; Superintendant Dr. Joyce Bisso; PTA Central Council Co-president Mitch Greebel; Community Chest Chair Eric Keslowitz; Dr. Sherry Bass, who along with her family, Patti Siegel, Carol Gursky, and William Bass donated the use of the two storefronts with the assistance of Pugatch Realty; and Community Chest Executive Director Bob Block. Not shown is Dr. Rifkind, co-supervisor of the Youth Leadership Board, who is coordinating the volunteer effort.

The center will be open daily for community members affected by the storm or to anyone who needs a little hand.
