Long Beach Actor Ed Lauter Dies
Ed Lauter, an actor and comedian with over 200 roles in movies and television series, died Wednesday of mesothelioma, reportedNew York Daily News. He was 74 years old. Born and raised in Long Beach, he received his BA in English Literature from CW Post. Actors' blood ran in his veins, however, as the son of 1920s Broadway actress Sally Lee, and so he decided to take his talents to the West. Read more here.

Family of Fatal Hit-and-Run Victim Reacts to Sentencing
Carter had cautioned the family of Dean LaLima that no sentence he could impose could fill the “hole in their soul” at their loss Thursday morning. Still, LaLima’s father John and his sister pleaded through cracked voices and teary eyes to impose the maximum allowable sentence on Raymond Kalenka, who stood in court in handcuffs to be sentenced for a hit-and-run that claimed the Williston Park resident’s life one early morning in 2012. Read more here.

Former Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla plans to appeal his conviction, and he also maintains that he's innocent, he told Patch Thursday. Bonilla was sentenced to 300 hours community service and a $1,000 fine after being convicted of one count of official misconduct in July. Read more here.
