New York American Water Reminds Residents to Keep Fire Hydrants Clear

New York American Water is asking home and business owners to take a few minutes to make sure that the immediate area around nearby fire hydrants is clear of accumulating snow.

Snow from accumulation and pushed aside by plows can make it difficult for firefighters to connect their equipment without delays, the company said in a release.

“We have 8,700 fire hydrants in our Long Island service areas alone,” said Vice President of Operations Brian Bruce.  “It is absolutely critical that fire hydrants are easily accessible to our firefighters. By taking a few minutes to dig out any hydrants in your area, you are helping them perform their lifesaving work without delay.
