The Peninsula Public Library hosted its first ‘Meet and Greet’ reception on Sunday, Oct. 14, for residents of District 15.

The purpose of the reception was to introduce community members to the library’s new director, Karen Porcella, and the library board of trustees. Over 120 people attended the reception and enjoyed the refreshments while expressing their thoughts and opinions to the director and the trustees.

“I am very happy that we were able to put together this reception," said PPL Trustee Jeff Leb. "It was encouraging hearing the many words of praise for our library and was also enlightening to hear people’s suggestions of possible improvements to the library. The most prominent ‘complaint’ was regarding the size limitations of the library’s physical facility. A majority of people expressed a desire for a new building for the library and that is something that we as a board will continue to investigate.”

Several elected officials and prominent community members attended and had the opportunity to speak to the attendees. These included State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, State Assemblyman Harvey Weisneberg, Nassau County Legislator Howard Kopel, President of the Inwood Republican Party Frank Mastero, District 15 School Board Member Dr. David Sussman, Village of Cedarhurst Trustee Ari Brown, Village of Lawrence Trustee Michael Fragin and President of the Lawrence Association Ronald Goldman.

"I think that it’s really great that the Peninsula Public Library had this reception," said Shani Klein, who attended the reception. "This event gave me and my family the opportunity to ... share my ideas on what I want to see in the library.”
