Video: Dropping "Anchor" for People With Special Needs

Stacey Sweet introduces you to one of Long Island's most special places. Go inside the magic that is Camp Anchor's annual field day, organized by the Peninsula Kiwanis.

Ask any Anchor camper and they will tell you that the Town of Hempstead's Anchor Program and Camp Anchor is truly a magical place.

Anchor serves about 1,000 children and young adults with special needs during the school year, and each summer, more than 700 kids experience the wonder of Anchor's summer camp.

The Peninsula Kiwanis Club last Saturday hosted their annual Spring Picnic for Anchor. And we got the chance to see the magic of Camp Anchor — its campers, supporters and volunteers — first hand.
