Andrea Koster-Crain, of Woodmere, has battled Stage 4 breast cancer for about six years.
On Sunday, the 56-year-old was honored at the Komen Greater NYC Race for the Cure as "Survivor of the Year," Newsday reported.
"I'm just so overwhelmed," Koster-Crain said. "This has been one of the most overwhelming and satisfying and heartfelt things ever."
Koster-Crain's daughter, 26-year-old Amanda, was honored as "Co-Survivor of the Year."
The Five Towns was also represented by Linda Rand, 58, of North Woodmere, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. Rand held a sign that said "5 Towns Girls 4 A Cure," her team's name.
The race is one of the organization's biggest fundraising events of the year.
