The following is a press release from the office of Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg:

The Department of Financial Services (DFS) has arranged for a program in Lawrence on Tuesday where representatives from five banks will be available to provide one-on-one assistance to homeowners seeking the release of Superstorm Sandy insurance settlement funds, Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg announced.

“Delays in recovery have resulted in hardship for many families who lack the resources to pay for repairs pending reimbursements,” Weisenberg said in a release. “Our community needs help with releasing these funds so that we can rebuild our homes.”

If your bank or mortgage servicer is not listed in this program, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) recommends that homeowners still visit the locations to get help in answering their questions. Homeowners with general insurance related questions are also invited to attend.

Residents should bring copies of any relevant documents, records, or correspondence for their one-on-one session.

Homeowners unable to go to these locations may contact the department by calling (800) 339-1759, which is staffed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Insurance information is also available on the department's website at www.dfs.ny.gov
