Lawrence Therapist Wins $1K Shopping Spree

Young mom wins Cedarhurst merchants' raffle.

A young mom and occupational therapist from Lawrence who said she thought “zero percent chance to win” can now go on a $1,000 shopping spree in Cedarhurst.

Hindy Gutmajer, 27, is the latest winner of the Cedarhurst Business Improvement District’s raffle, with the winning entry entered at Orly (439 Central Ave.) during the most recent sidewalk sale.

“This is really crazy,” she said. “ I want to buy myself a lot of stuff. I’m very appreciative.”

Gutmajer said she’s a frequent shopper on Central Avenue, and comes sometimes after dropping her son off at school. She hopes to finds some items for him and her husband.

This is the third the time the merchants of Cedarhurst have awarded a $1,000 shopping spree. And it’s actually the second time the winning entry was entered at Orly.

“It’s a very lucky store,” said owner Orna Shoshan.

Teri Schure, executive director of the BID, pointed out that Orly’s raffle box number is 18 (chai, or "life," for Jews).

“We’re happy we can give back to the merchants and give something nice to a shopper,” Schure said.
