New 7-Eleven Coming to Former Gas Station

The Five Towns will soon be home to its third 7-Eleven store, with the convenience store chain setting up shop at the former Shell gas station in Hewlett.

7-Eleven has already purchased the property at Peninsula Boulevard and Mill Road, and will renovate the existing 2,800 square-foot building there, according to a 7-Eleven spokesperson. The shop is slated to open in mid-December, and will feature the chain’s proprietary brands, such as Slurpee, and fresh and hot foods.

The Town of Hempstead recently granted a variance to the store for a detached, double-sided illuminated sign with a 2-foot setback off the road.

Currently, there are 7-Eleven stores at the corner of Rockaway Turnpike and Peninsula Boulevard in Cedarhurst and another in Hewlett at 1700 Broadway.

The so-called “Four Corners” at Peninsula Boulevard and Mill Road, which up until last year had four gas stations, has recently seen a resurgence after two of the gas stations shut down. The property diagonally across from the soon-to-open 7-Eleven, a former Gulf gas station, was purchased by a developer that plans to open retail stores.
