Release: Business Opening Raises $1K for Animal Rescue Group

Fido Fitness Club hosts two day celebration and adopt-a-thon.

A furry fundraiser held at the grand opening of a Woodmere business raised nearly $1,000 a local animal rescue group.

held its Grand Opening Weekend Celebration and Adopt-a-thon from May 21 to 22, raising the funds for the not-for-profit .

“We really wanted to celebrate the community here in Woodmere and at the same time give back to the wonderful animal rescue group Tavi & Friends,” said Ellen Adler, co-owner of and owner of the adjacent . “We had a great time and I think everyone who attended, two- and four-legged, did as well. We are looking forward to hosting more community events in the future.”

The event kicked off with a ribbon cutting ceremony with Town of Hempstead Councilmen Jim Darcy and Anthony Santino. More than 200 people attended the two-day event and many raffle prizes were awarded.

Attendees got to bring their dogs in for free to romp around the indoor dog park and learn more about it. Many pets and their owners had their photos taken by professional pet photographers Len Marks, shopped at the participating vendors and North Shore Animal League lent their van for the day on Sunday to help raise awareness of the importance of adopting a pet.

Throughout the event, Tavi & Friends took 10 applications for pet adoptions.

“We are also very thankful to all our vendors who participated, people who donated raffle prizes and of course to Councilman Jim Darcy and Councilman Anthony Santino for a warm welcome at the ribbon cutting ceremony,” said Evelyn Franklin, co-owner of Fido Fitness Club.
