Restaurant/Bar Available for Rent in Woodmere

Cafe closes down after less than a year.

, the city-style Woodmere café, went out of business several months ago, leaving the landlord to find a new tenant.

Although many restaurants have come and gone at that location, the owner of the building, John Martino, said he expects that the store, at 1066 Broadway, will remain some type of eatery.

"I think it's been a restaurant for over 20 years," he said. "The store is very clean, it has a nice kitchen, a full basement and big bar."

Martino is hoping to get about $2,500 per month rent for the 1,200 square-foot store, which has been vacant since mid-winter. He said that Press was only in business for about six months.

“It's a shame, because [the owner] must have put about $30,000 to $40,000 into that store,” he said.

Prior to Press, it store was an upscale Mediterranean restaurant called that was in business for several years.

Andrew Trinceri, who owns the adjacent Visions beauty salon, claims that even though the restaurant’s owner tried to entice customers with various special events like karaoke and sports-themed nights, high prices may have been the store’s downfall.

“You got to give the guy credit. He tried a bunch of different things,” Trinceri said. ”They tried to open for lunch, they tried to open some late nights and they tried some entertainment. The food was pretty good, but I thought it was pricey. If I have lunch, I want to spend about $7, not $20. A little panini was $17. You don't even pay those prices in the city.”

However, Trinceri attributes part of the restaurant’s demise on the economy.

"It's a tough time right now,” he said. “Even my own business is down. We don’t do the kind of business we used to do.”
