Hewlett Corner Store Vacant for Years

Large space is available across from LIRR station.

The vacant storefront at 1215 Station Plaza, located at the corner at New Street, rests in a thriving portion of the Hewlett business district, directly across from the LIRR station.

Surrounded by clothing boutiques, restaurants and an array of retail establishments, this corner store has not seen a tenant since Discount Funding Associates occupied it several years ago.

Lori Lewis, from , explained that while the space provides more than 2,000 square feet with a full basement, location is the building’s main allure.

“It's right near the train with great visibility, it's clean and it can be used for just about anything,” Lewis said. “It’s reasonably priced, it’s a wide open space and it’s ready for a new tenant.”

The property was vacant several years ago when Debbie Brunell, owner of , began looking for a spot to open her women’s accessory store in the neighborhood.

“It’s too big and and the rent was way too high,” Brunell said.

Rent for this property was listed at $3,900 per month in 2010, according to information found on Loopnet.com, however, Lewis would not release current information to Patch.

Neighboring business owners hope to see another retail store or restaurant join them on the block.

“You got a lot of empty stores around here, which is sad” Brunell said. “We need a shoe store, but I’m not opening it.”

An owner of , who did want to be identified, theorized that even though parking is a problem in the neighborhood, the storefront is in a good location.

“I wish they would find someone to fill it,” she said. “It would be nice to have another retail establishment around here.”
