Five Towns Libraries Offer Text Message Renewals

Skip a trip for another few weeks with a borrowed book.

For anyone with a cell phone, renewing a book at Five Towns libraries is now as easy as texting “RENEW.”

Both and Public Libraries introduced a system that texts patrons their borrowed book’s due date. Residents can reply with the word “RENEW,” and another text will follow confirming the transaction. If a borrower has overdue items or owes fines, or if there is a hold on the book, the renewal will be denied.

In all, 52 of Nassau County’s 54 libraries have started utilizing this technology, the South Shore Standard reports.
