Get Out: Your Local Guide to the Weekend, July 30-31

Make the most of the sunny weather this Saturday and Sunday with these fun activities.

You don't have to go far to find fun this weekend. We found some great activities around the neighborhood for you to try with your whole family, stuff just for the kids or exciting ideas for a date night with your spouse.

Mini golf is a summertime tradition and there is a great course close to home.  And if you haven’t checked out Hempstead Lake Park, you are missing out on something great right in your backyard! We also have Latin dancing at the boardwalk, family yoga and a Harry Potter party.

 Kids Bowl Free

Where: Rockville Centre Lanes (www.rvclanes.net), 100 Maple Ave, Rockville Centre

When: Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Why go: Get out of the heat and have some fun! Come to RVC Lanes and register for the "Kids Bowl Free" program and you get 1 free game every day (weekdays and weekends) of the summer.

Mini Golf

Where: Hendrickson Park, W. Merrick Rd. in Valley Stream

When: Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 from 10 a.m. Last tee-off is 8:30 p.m.

Why go: This beautiful 18-hole golf course with its natural landscaping, streams, ponds, fountains, bridges, and interesting course design are both fun and challenging. It’s a perfect summer outing!

Cost:  Adults (16 years old +):  $4.00; Seniors (60 years old +): $3.00; Youth (under 15 years old): $3.00  

Old Fashioned Carousel

Where: Hempstead Lake Park, Exit 18 off the Southern State Parkway, West Hempstead

When: Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 from noon – 7 p.m.

Why go: Take advantage of everything that this wonderful park has to offer. Among the many amenities is a beautiful and historic hand carved, wooden carousel. There’s also 20 tennis courts, children's playgrounds, basketball courts, biking and hiking trails, and shaded picnic areas. And don’t forget all the fishing on the three ponds.

Family Day at the Museum

Where: Nassau County Museum of Art (www.nassaumuseum.com)

When: Every Sunday at 1 p.m.

Why go: The museum offers supervised art activities for youngsters and their adults: family gallery talks and family-friendly gallery guides. The gallery talks begin at 1 pm followed by an art activity at 1:30.

Cost: Free with museum admission

Hoop Hoop Hooray

Where:  Long Island Children’s Museum, Garden City. Licm.com

When: Saturday, July 30, at 2:30 pm

Why go: Hula-hoop your way to good health! Join in for a fun spinning session and create a special hula salad to start your day off right! This program will be using tomatoes, peppers, onions, beans, lettuce, and other greens. The Get Up and Go series is sponsored by The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York.

Cost: free with admission (General Admission: $11, children under 1: free)

Local Art On Display

Where: (http://www.earthartslb.com)162 W Park Ave, Long Beach

When: Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31, open daily

Why go: Enjoy the innovative photography of Scott Evers at Earth Arts all month.  Local Long Beach imagery, combined with natural habitats of long Island as well as creative photoshopped worlds.

Cost: free

Harry Potter Party 

Where: (http://www.earthartslb.com) 162 W Park Ave, Long Beach

When: Saturday, July 30 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Why go: Butter Beer mugs, clay sorting hat boxes, Harry Potter trivia, pizza and beverages top off this Kid's Night Out. Drop off 8 years of age and up please.

Cost: Admission is $30.00 plus tax. RSVP is a must.

Family Yoga

Where: Revolution Yoga, 7 N Village Ave, Rockville Centre

When: Sunday, July 31, 11 a.m. - noon

Why go: Adults aren't the only ones who can benefit from the calming effects of yoga. Yoga provides kids with a much-needed physical outlet in a noncompetitive environment. This is great and healthy way to spend time with family. The classes encourage kids to open their minds, be comfortable in their bodies and learn methods to combat stress in school or social situations.

Cost: $20

Latin Music and Dancing

Where: Boardwalk Bandshell at Jones Beach

When: July 31, 7:30 p.m.

Why go: Jones Beach Boardwalk Bandshell will feature Latin Sundays presented by 105.9 radio. Free parking is available in Field 4.

Cost: free parking

Ages: Open to all ages, 21 to drink.

Restaurant Night

Where: , 948 Broadway, Woodmere

When: Sunday, July 31, from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Why go: Come out to Backstage Nite Club every Sunday night for half price pitchers, $5 personal pizzas and $10 for unlimited bowling.
