Get Out: Your Local Guide to the Weekend, July 9-10

The best events happening near you this Saturday and Sunday.

In case you didn’t get your fill of fireworks last weekend, we have found some places that will fill your night with light. Also, there are some fantastic theatrical performances, fairs and even a disco concert! There’s something for everyone in this weekend’s guide, so check it out below.

Where:  Long Beach, between Long Beach Blvd. and Riverside Blvd.
When: Friday, July 8, 8 p.m.
Why Go: Extend the fun of the Fourth of July for one more night! Music and fireworks fill the air on the beach for this annual summertime party. There will be live music beginning at 8 p.m. and the fireworks begin at 9 p.m. The City of Long Beach will provide free shuttle bus service every 15 minutes beginning at 7 p.m.  from the West End, East End, and Lido, to Riverside Blvd. For West End: Starts at Ohio & Beech – to Grand to Broadway to Riverside. East End: Starts at Riverside & Park – to Maple to Broadway to Riverside.

Where: Echo Park at the Little League Field
When: Sunday, July 10, 6:30 p.m.
Why Go: This community event will bring the sounds of big band music, Broadway and patriotic selections right into the center of town.

What: Village of Rockville Centre Celebration
Where: Centennial Park / Mill River Park in Rockville Centre
When: Saturday, July 9, 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: This is Rockville Centre at its best! Come out and celebrate what this town is all about. There will be live music by the South Shore Symphony (7:30 p.m.) a performance by Leggz Ltd. Dance Company (8 p.m.) and a spectacular fireworks display put on by the famous Grucci family (at 9 p.m.)

What: Performance of Lend Me a Tenor
Where: Broadhollow Theater at Elmont Library, 700 Hempstead Trpk. in Elmont
When: Saturday, July 9, 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 10 2:30 p.m.
Why Go: From the Broadhollow Theater's website: “a screwball comedy that takes place when Tito Merelli, the fiery-tempered Italian superstar, arrives in Ohio to make his debut with the local opera and goes missing. As Saunders, the show’s presenter, conspires to cover for Tito’s absence, placate his hot-blooded wife, and distract his fans, chaos on a truly operatic level ensues.”
Cost:  Adults, $23; Seniors, $21; Students, $18; or $25 at the door.

Where: St. Mary of the Isle, 315 E. Walnut St. in Long Beach
When: Friday, July 8, 6-11 p.m. ; Saturday, July 9, 5-11 p.m. ; Sunday, July 10, 5-11 p.m.
Why Go: This festival focuses on the theme of international cultures and food. There will also be rides, games, entertainment and gambling -- definitely a little something for everyone.

What: Plattduetsche Park Volksfest
Where:  1132 Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square
When: Saturday, July 9 beginning at noon and Sunday, July 10 at 11 a.m.
Why Go: This family outing offers live music including bands direct from Germany, Bavarian dancing by world renowned acts, activities for children, imported specialties, German food and drink, game stands, shooting in the rifle range for prizes, Miss Plattduetsche Queen & Princess contest, raffles and more.

What: Disco Night
Where: Lakeside Theatre, Eisenhower Park, East Meadow
When: Saturday, July 9, 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Everyone has a good time when disco music is playing! Songs from Peaches & Herb, Maxine Nightingale, Musique, and The Disco Orchestra Uppercut will be featured.

What: Bye Bye Birdie on stage
Where: Lakeside Theatre, Eisenhower Park, East Meadow
When: Sunday, July 10, 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Theater in the park outdoes itself with the Plaza Theatrical production of this timeless classic.
