More Snow on the Way

Town officials urge residents to stay off the roads, while after-school activities are canceled.

Even more snow is headed to the Five Towns area tonight. That's right — more snow.

With a few inches of snow already on the ground, the National Weather Service is anticipating another 3-7 inches late tonight into Thursday morning. And with temperatures dropping to around 26 degrees tonight, coupled with predictions of medium-strength wind gusts, an ugly commute could be on hand for Thursday morning. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from tonight until 6 a.m. tomorrow, with a total of 8-12 inches of snow possible by the morning.

Both the and school districts announced that all after-school activities have been canceled. No decision has been made on whether or not the district will remain open on Thursday. Residents can keep an eye on the districts' websites for updates.

"By minimizing vehicular traffic, roads can be cleared more quickly and residents can minimize the risks associated with driving in storm conditions," said Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray. Visit TOH.li for more information on the storm.
