Town Opens Cooling Centers, Extends Pool Hours for the Week

Temperatures expected to reach mid-90s for most of the week.

This week’s heat wave, which has impacted many areas across the nation, as well as on Long Island, has prompted Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray to announce the opening of 15 cooling centers and the extension of hours at 13 pools from Tuesday, July 19 through Friday, July 22.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s throughout the week, with heat indexes rising over 100 degrees. These conditions can be especially dangerous for young children and senior citizens.

Cooling centers are open to the public and will be open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., unless otherwise noted:
