Weekend Guide: Spooky Breakfast, Oktoberfest and Outdoor Fun
Exciting events happening close to home this weekend.
Whether you're a fan of Big Bird, beer or bird-watching, there are some fun events taking place this Saturday and Sunday right in our own backyard.
With the forecast calling for sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70s, low 80s, you won't want to waste your weekend inside your house. There are many great outdoor activities, a Halloween-themed event and a celebration of Oktoberfest. Take a look at what we found.
Fall Wildlife Festival

Why go: A day of fun at this Fall Festival! Featuring L.I. bee keepers, wildlife exhibits, native plants for sale, local folk singer Jerry Ahem, local poet Max Wheat, the Riverhead Foundation, environmentally friendly products, L.I. Herpitological Society, and a restoration farm from Old Bethpage.

Nighttime Nature Walk
Where: Center for Science Teaching and Learning,1 Tanglewood Rd., Rockville Centre
When: Friday, Oct. 7, 7:30 p.m.-9 p.m.
Why go: Looking for something fun and different to do in the evening? CSTL is offering a guided nature tour to find nocturnal creatures, learn about their habitats and their behaviors.
Age: Children ages 5-12 with families
Cost: $5 (Registration is required.)

Fishing Tournament
Where: Jones Beach fishing pier, field 10, Ocean Parkway, Wantagh
When: Saturday, Oct. 8, 8 p.m.-midnight; Sunday, Oct. 9, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Why go: A fall fishing tournament set in world famous Jones Beach. This tournament focuses on blackfish and striped bass. Awards will be handed out on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Cost: $15, tickets required.

Sesame Street Spooktacular Breakfast
Where: United Skates of America,1276 Hicksville Rd., Seaford
When: Sunday, Oct. 9, 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m.
Why go: Come and meet Sesame Street Monsters while eating at a full breakfast buffet. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Cost: $20 per person, $15 children, 2 and under free

Oktoberfest
Where: Plattduetsche Park Restaurant, 1132 Hempstead Tpke., Franklin Square
When: Saturday, Oct. 8, 7 p.m.-11 p.m.
Why go: It's Oktoberfest in Franklin Square! Featuring a Schlachtplatte (a traditional German dish), dessert, beer, dancing, music and more, presented by the Treffpunkt Berlin Club.
Cost: $48 in advance, $50 at the door
