Weekly Recap: Lawrence HS Closes, No. 6 Bid

A look back at the top stories of the week.

This past week's stories were all about the Lawrence School District, with four of five most read stories focusing on District 15. Here they are:

5. Golden Tornadoes QB Named Best Player in State

The Lawrence Golden Tornadoes enjoyed a fantastic 2012-13 season, and it was only a matter of time before the accolades started coming. This story focused on an honor bestowed upon two of the team's players: Joe Capobianco and Eddie Robinson.

4. When Can I File My 2012 Tax Return?

It's that time of year again — tax season. This story will let you know the answer to the question in the headline.

3.

This follow up to the news that Lawrence High School was closing for two months for repairs (hopefully) captured the anger many parents felt at the district.

2. Lawrence School Board Accepts Developer's Bid for No. 6 School

Since the bidding process was opened, residents had wondered what will happen to the site of Number Six School. The board of education pushed the community closer to an answer by accepting the highest bid, by a developer.

1. Lawrence High School Shut Down Due to Storm Damage

And our top story of the week is the shocking news of Lawrence High School's closure due to storm damage. This will affect students and faculty for weeks to come.

Congratulations to the Lawrence Football Team, its QB and players for outstanding play and honors they well deserve. On the other side of the coin, too bad the school board and administration can't show the leadership of the coach and team. Besides the sale of PS #6, the closing of LHS for two months and the moving of so many students to the Middle School, why couldn't they utilize PS 6 for most of the high school classes and not overcrowd the middle school? While the football team scores, the school board and administration fumbles!
