Ford Supported by Both Parties in 2013 Race

District now includes parts of the Five Towns.

Denise Ford has represented the fourth legislative district, which includes Long Beach and Atlantic Beach for the past 10 years. Although she is a Republican, she has the support of the Nassau County Democratic Committee.

Under the new legislative map, the fourth district now includes most of Lawrence, part of Cedarhurst and Woodmere, Woodsburgh and Hewlett Neck (see map above, and/or find out what district you live in by clicking here).

The incumbent legislator is unchallenged on Nov. 5. Ford sent the following response to Patch’s candidate questionnaire.

Why are you running for this position?

I have always believed in public service which enables me to help the communities that I represent.

What qualifies you to serve in the position?

As I have been the legislator for the past 10 years, I feel that my record has shown that I am qualified for this position.

What is your opinion of the most recent budget? Would you have done something differently with it?

Considering the stress on the economy throughout the county, I feel that the proposed budget is fair especially since taxes are not being raised on our residents.

What is the biggest issue facing the district?

Rebuilding after Sandy is one of the more pressing issues facing this district. There are too many residents that are still not back in their homes and businesses that have not re-opened. I am concerned about protection against future storms and the possibility of dramatically increased insurance costs. The rehabilitation, rebuilding and mitigation of the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant are extremely important as it can impact all the surrounding communities.

What is the biggest issue facing the county?

The tax burden on our residents and businesses is one of the biggest issues.

If you are elected, what is the one thing you’d like to see accomplished during your term?

I wish there was only one thing that I would like to see accomplished but I have a diverse district and each neighborhood has its own issues. I will also be representing new areas under redistricting and I am looking forward to meeting with these residents.

Would you like to add anything else?

It has been an honor to be the legislator for the 4th LD. I look forward to continue working with community leaders and other government officials for the benefit of the residents and business owners in the neighborhoods that I represent.
