Woodmere Fire Commissioner Challenged Tuesday

Longtime Woodmere Fire Department Commissioner David Stern will be challenged on Tuesday by newcomer Stuart Bodner.

Stern, who is also a firefighter, has served as commissioner for two five-year terms. He has held the ranks of lieutenant and captain in Woodmere Fire Department’s ambulance company.

Bodner could not be reached for comment.

Voting will take place on Dec. 10 from 6  p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Irving Place headquarters.

Incumbent commissioners in the other fire districts are unchallenged. They are:

  • Hewlett Bay Fire District Commissioner Paul Breslin (polls are open from 5 to 9 p.m.)

  • Inwood Commissioner George Miller (polls are open from 6 to 9 p.m.)

  • Atlantic Beach Rescue Commissioner Steve Cherson (polls are open from 6 to 9 p.m.)

  • Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire District elections are held privately.

  • All new five-year terms begin on Jan. 1, 2014.
