Continuing to Help Youth Reach Their Goals

Inwood organization to host second fundraiser this weekend.

Two years after the death of Inwood resident Nicky Vacchio, his family continues to build an organization in his honor dedicated to helping young people pursue their goals.

Patty Vacchio and her family kicked off eNVy (Embracing Noble Values for Young People) last year with its first fundraiser, where it donated proceeds to another youth organization and offered three $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors. This Saturday, the family will host another fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m. at Mulcahy’s in Wantagh.

“Many more people have taken an interest in the organization, and with the new website up and running, we hope to now acquire a larger membership as well as get some professionals on board,” said Vacchio, who was named Inwood Civic Association’s 2012 citizen of the year. “We thank everyone for their interest and support.”

Nicky Vacchio, 24, died in October 2008 after living with a range of mental illnesses including a diagnosis of schizophrenia. His mother said that poor decision making clouded her son’s good intentions. Along with scholarships, eNVy also features a “mentorship program that keeps the youth focused and well-informed on their road to success.”
