Meeting: FEMA Flood Maps

Due to a change in flood maps by FEMA in 2009, many residents in the Five Towns, particularly those in Hewlett and Woodmere near Peninsula Boulevard, have had to shell out thousands of dollars for flood insurance that they do not require.

This is having an negative impact on home values and causing those living on fixed incomes to suffer. Those in the Gibson area of Valley Stream have been fighting back. I have attached a link in the Valley Stream Herald below which highlights their efforts to reverse the change to the flood maps. http://www.liherald.com/valleystream/valleystream/stories/County-steps-up-in-flood-map-fight,39484
