Spreading Awareness of Injustices Against Women

A Hewlett High School student has been honored for her work in getting local municipalities to recognize the United Nations' "International Day of the Girl."

Samantha Cohen, of Hewlett Neck, last year urged Cedarhurst to recognize International Day of the Girl, which seeks to spread awareness injustices and discrimination against women around the world.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray on Oct. 10 presented the teen with an official Town of Hempstead Proclamation in recognition of International Day of the Girl. The National Council of Jewish Women Peninsula Section in Lawrence coordinated the event.
