#91 - Buy a Book at Buy the Book

Lawrence bookstore offers low prices and a personal touch.

Although people are increasingly purchasing their books from Amazon or downloading them onto electronic readers, there’s still nothing like visiting a local shop, being able to physically leaf through the books and getting face-to-face assistance from the staff when needed. That’s where Buy the Book comes in.

It’s a bookstore for readers who still enjoy shopping for their books the old-fashioned way and where they can get deep discounts in the bargain. This huge store carries almost every kind of book you might want, at prices that won’t put a dent in your wallet — unlike most of the popular chains, online retailers or privately owned shops. Everything they’ve got is 40 to 80 percent off the cover price.

Although they have books for people of all ages, their huge stock of children’s books really stands out. They carry board books for toddlers, educational books, novels for pre-teens and teens, activity books, CD readers, leveled books for grade school kids and even a variety of interesting flashcards.

There’s a nice section of biographies just for kids. Several standouts include “The Story of Ruby Bridges,” “The Brothers Kennedy: John, Robert and Edward” and “Teddy: The Story of Young Teddy Roosevelt.”

But this place isn’t just for kids. They’ve got plenty for adults — including cookbooks, fiction, non-fiction, self-help, coffee table books and bestsellers, all of which are neatly organized into specific categories for easy browsing.

The store had its grand opening just a few weeks ago, having recently moved from Rockaway Turnpike to its new location at 334 Central Avenue in Lawrence.

It offers the personal touch that’s lacking with online shopping — and at an average of 60 percent off each item, the price is right.

Does anyone know what this post means? Does new blood mean voting for the old guys or the young guyRead More or a combination of young and old? What truth is the Lawrence Association bringing? That it makes sense to elect someone who has never been involved in any way shape or fashion in village affairs? Can she explain that if she wants new blood why the Lawrence Association declined to back Jeffrey Hirth who fits the new blood and fresh energy mold?

It's all a Legislative Charade. Lipa was overloaded with Debt from the Shoreham Debacle that ourRead More Legistlators got us into by canceling the Shoreham plant. Electricity? Just Put up another Windmill. The reality is that we face more Blackouts and Danger. Lipa still owes Billions from Shoreham and therefore Cannot afford to Invest in Infrastructure. So the System fails again and again and then our Legislators Blame Lipa and they say "we need reform". so give the job to someone else with a New Name but with the same big debt, and no real change. Why Doesn't Nassau County take over the Debt so that all Taxpayers are responsible and it doesn't hang solely over the Ratepayers?
