In light of the hardship many families are facing, I would like to make you aware of a possible free resource for the families in the community.
My organization, LIFE, has been working for the last four years helping people who are struggling with their mortgages. We are funded by New York State and our work is and has always been free of charge.
We have been working with the Attorney General's office to try and establish protocols whereby banks will grant temporary forbearance agreements to people who were hit hard by Sandy. This would give these homeowners a month or two or three of mortgage relief while they deal with home repairs and replacements.
We are a free resource for the community. I encourage all of you to refer anyone who might have mortgage problems (whether or not due to Sandy) to our offices.
