If you’re not into co-ed settings, the three-level in Cedarhurst has a women’s-only gym and men’s-only workout hours, as well as one floor devoted to both men and women. The atmosphere at this club is elegant and serene. It also offers free child care services.

If spinning is your thing, the in Cedarhurst is expanding its spinning workout area and offering free spin classes to members on Monday and Wednesday mornings. You can also get in on other special rates if you’re a student or with a group.

One of the largest gyms in the Five Towns is Life Club in Lawrence (235 Mill St.), offering services and facilities that most modest-sized gyms just don’t have the room for, such as basketball, racquetball, juice bar, steam room, massage, a spa, physical therapy room and many other amenities.

For those who want one-on-one instruction, in Hewlett specializes in customized programs for individual sessions. Other personal trainer specialties include working with post-rehab patients, seniors, the physically challenged and pregnant women. It now also offers muay Thai and kickboxing, available for private or small group sessions.

With a good diet being just as important as exercise in the quest to lose weight and get healthy, most of these facilities also offer nutritional counseling as well.
