Poll: Most Dangerous Road in the Five Towns?

Tell us what local street or intersection you think could be made safer.

Unfortunately, vehicular accidents do happen quite regularly in the Five Towns. Sometimes, they're minor, but occasionally, they are fatal, as Patch has reported in the past.

Many incidents seem to occur on Peninsula Boulevard, but residents often cite safety issues along Central Avenue, Broadway, Rockaway Turnpike and the 878.

Vote in our poll below or use the comments section to tell us what local streets or intersections seem the most problematic to you. Then, suggest ways that they could be made safer.

Even though I haven't personally seen an accident on any of these roads, the only road in the Five Towns that I have ever truly felt unsafe while driving (or being a passenger in a car) would be Peninsula Blvd (as I voted). People are always driving well over the speed limit (of 30 MPH!) and changing lanes erratically. Add that to the curvy-ness of the road, and you get what I know has been a lethal combination (from all of the telephone poll memorials I have seen over the years).

B"H I think that one of dumbest spots in the five towns is heading down broadway from hewlett to woodmere -- on the right hand side in front of the storage place if a vehicle is parked there the traffic needs to cross double yellow with oncoming cars, buses, dump trucks, etc to get past. anyone else notice this?

That spot always scares me. I'm not sure why the town hasn't gotten rid of parking there.

Every major intersection along Woodmere Boulevard should be included; Broadway, Central Avenue, West Broadway and Peninsula Boulevard are the worst

Sheridan Blvd from Bayview ave to the light at Bayswater Blvd near Sobols can only be described as the Indy 500 the average speed is about 60 mph and no one stops at that light .They should put a red light camera ther the county would make millions. And wait till it snows watched many cars slide into the on coming lanes .
