The Five Towns' Most-Run Stop Signs

Which ones are disregarded the most?

A school bus and an MTA bus  last year at an intersection with stop signs in Cedarhurst.

Do you know of a location where a stop sign is frequently rolled through or ignored? Tell us where it is in the comments.

First you need to know the difference between a stop sign and a light, which clearly you do not since the crash occured at a light.

Leroy Avenue and Carvel Avenue & Leroy Avenue and Fifth Avenue, in Cedarhurst, even school buses! Washington Avenue & Oak Avenue, also. Probably every other stop sign in Cedarhurst, Woodmere, and the rest of the Five Towns!

Anywhere in the harbor or woodsburgh

The intersection of Albro Lane and Chauncey Lane in Lawrence is a 4-way stop where drivers frequently ignore the stop signs. At night, it is unsafe to walk your dog at that intersection.

Okay, thanks buddy, I know the difference. I made a mistake. I've changed the story.

People blow red lights all the time, what makes anyone think they will stop for a stop sign! Yellow lights mean speed up, not slow down in anticipation of stopping! A few years ago my kids were t-boned at Cedarhurst Ave and Chestnut right before the tracks, someone blew the stop sign at the end of restaurant row and sent my older son to the hospital! My kids had the right of way, no stop sign! People just don't care about traffic laws and the rights of other citizens, or are too busy talking on their cell phones.

I don't know about stop signs but the traffic light in front of the Cottage diner has to be one of the most-run lights on long island, let alone the five towns

the school bus and mta bus collided at a stop sign as previously reported...the intersection is Central Avenue and Locust Avenue in Cedarhurst, Locust becomes McGlynn on the north side. The intersection is controlled 4 ways by stops signs, the traffic light is at Maple Avenue. Done Deal....

My employment requires me to drive the streets of Lawrence five days a weeks. As several people have stated above: ALL THE STOP SIGNS! I have to agree. Kenridge Rd and Washington Ave is a bad one as well as Chauncey Ln and Briarwood Xing / Barrett Rd , Washington and Barrett Rd, both stop signs on Kenridge Rd crossing Margaret and Muriel Ave's. Then you have streets that have no stop signs at all for some reason that exit on to main roads. Shame on the Villiage of Lawrence for allowing this. These streets are as follows. Dogwood Ln and Meadow Ln, Mistletoe Way and Barrett Rd, Park Row and Chauncey Ln and BOTH ends of Marbridge Rd onto Meadow and Margaret Rd's.

Neptune Avenue and Allen Lane in Woodmere. The Town could balance the budget if a police car was sitting just off the corner.

ALL the stop signs on Albemarle Avenue in Cedarhurst!

Yes. The winner. I will however submit for runner up the intersection of Raymond Place and Trinity Place in Hewlett.

At the "T" intersection on Prospect Avenue and Slocum Street in Hewlett. It is down the road from Grant Park and around the corner from the 4th precinct. It is a through street from Rockaway Avenue into Lynbrook and people fly through it all the time. The cops try to discourage people by putting a car on Slocum facing the apartments on Prospect, but that doesn't really help.

Park Lane and Park Circle and Park Lane and Redwood Drive ... cars blow through both going 40 mph ... very dangerous.
Pam Darby August 18, 2012 at 01:01 PM
Park lane And Park Circle and Park Lane And Redwood Drive is a joke...... Almost Every car Blowing these Stop Signs are the people who live around these Blocks...... No Respect For the Area....... The People don't even Slow Down..... A Police Officer Could Give Out 100 Plus Tickets a Day...... Every Day For a Year......
Rich August 18, 2012 at 01:22 PM
The Park Lane Stop Signs are ignored .... This area in Cedarhurst park is an area that only if you live over by these Blocks will you be over here...... Which makes it ALL the WORST....... Every Car is someone who lives right by these stop signs.... They Don't Slow Down at all ... 2 Stop Signs in a row......40MPH without slowing Down AT ALL..... And its All the New Residents Who have Moved into the Area over the last 10 Years...... You Should Be ASHAMED of YOURSELVES................

Longacre Ave. & Clubhouse Rd. in Woodmere is such a joke that if the police put an unmarked patrol car there that the county could rectify its budget in citations given just from that spot alone...Rich, you are sooo on the money! SAD..
