5. Infant Saved by Fire Department Volunteers

Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department volunteers in May helped saved the life of an infant in Cedarhurst.


A Nassau County police officer was hospitalized in October after being hit by a car on the 878 just north of the Atlantic Beach Bridge.

4. 33 Displaced After Broadway Building Fire

A two-story building at the corner of Broadway and Princeton Avenue caught fire in February, sending thick plumes of smoke in the air and closing down the road in both directions.

3. Hewlett Gas Station Destroyed In Fire

The British Petroleum gas station located at 1169 Broadway in Hewlett was destroyed by a fire in July.


Police arrested a “potential madman” in March after a routine assignment in Woodmere that led to the discovery of a large cache of explosives, weapons and marijuana, according to County Executive Edward Mangano and police officials.

1. DA: Man Plotted to Kill Teen After Sexual Abuse

An Inwood man, already charged with sexually abusing a teenaged employee, was arraigned in July for plotting to kill the employee to prevent him from testifying in the sexual abuse case.
