5 Arrested in Burglary of Occupied House

Police say armed group threatened residents of Huntington home.

Suffolk County Police arrested five men Tuesday on charges of burglarizing a Huntington home.

Police gave this account:

Three armed men entered a home on Leigh St. early Tuesday morning, entering through an unlocked door at approximately 1:20 a.m. They threatened the five residents and demanded cash. Two others remained outside, waiting in a 2001 Lincoln and acting as lookouts while the burglary look place. 

The five men fled in the Lincoln and were stopped a short distance later on Deer Park Avenue in Dix Hills by Second Precinct Officers Stephen Maraglio, Thomas Minnion, and Christopher Gahn.

During the course of this investigation, two handguns were recovered.  Second Squad detectives charged the following men with first-degree burglary, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon  and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon:

  • Jason Gwaltney, 25, of 46 St. Peters Drive, Brentwood
  • Jaquese Jones, 18, of 105-4 Howells Road, Bay Shore
  • Nouvelle Lucas, 17, of 96 Arlington St., Wyandanch
  • Demetrius Edwards, 19, of 79 Levey Boulevard, Wyandanch
  • Tahjiea Carpenter, 17, of 970 Park Ave., Huntington

Carpenter was also charged with four counts of second-degree burglary in the burglary of four other Huntington homes.

None of the residents were injured and the investigation is continuing.  All five men will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.

Truth is none of u know ANYTHING about Jason. U know he played football and made mistakes. U don't know him so don't act like u do worry about ur own he's someone son, someone's brother, someone's grand kid who is obviously going through a very hard time. Ridicule over concern and compassion is savage like as well

Make sure they are in your house when you shoot them, just a legal issue... Otherwise they could find you at fault. Let them brake in, then start cutting loose with your guns!!! Yea you don't know these outstanding citizens of the community and do not need to. If someone brakes into my house at 1pm they will not get out...
