The Lawrence Cedarhurst Fire Department responded to a working house fire at 2 Manor Lane in Lawrence at 4 a.m. on Saturday.
The fire was detected by a fire alarm system alerting the sole occupant. He quickly escaped without injury as the home filled with smoke.
Under the command of Chief Joseph Sperber, 30 LCFD volunteers battled the blaze. Mutual Aid assistance came from the Inwood, Woodmere and Hewlett fire departments.
The fire was contained to a rear living room on the first floor and was under control in about 30 minutes. Firefighters operated for another 30 minutes overhauling and ventilating the home. The fire appeared to be electrical in nature.
Five Towns firefighters have been kept busy lately. This is the 10th working fire in the area this month.
