Atlantic Beach Man Sentenced for Jury Tampering

An Atlantic Beach man convicted of tampering with a juror in the Susan Williams murder-for-hire case was sentenced to 10 days in jail Tuesday.

Nassau County Court Judge Andrew Engel sentenced Francis Trapani Tuesday.

Nassau County District Attorney Squad detectives arrested Trapani last November after he called a juror. According to detectives, during a search of the defendant, he was found to be in possession of "what appeared to be drug residue of an off-white powdery substance."

Trapani was charged with tampering with a juror in the first degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

A jury found Williams guilty of hiring a hit man to kill her estanged husband, Peter Williams, in December 2010. A jury also found Williams guilty of forging Peter's signature to make her the owner of his $1 million life insurance policy.

The Garden City mother of four received the maximum sentence of 8 1/3 to 25 years in jail.
