UPDATE: Man Injured in Woodmere House Fire

Several fire departments respond to blaze on Prospect Avenue.

One person was rescued after his Woodmere home caught fire around 7:10 p.m. Friday, according to police.

The residence was occupied by a male victim, 61, who was found unconscious in a second floor bedroom, police said.

The victim, who sustained second degree burns to his hands, neck and face, in addition to suffering from smoke inhalation, was transported to a local hospital by a Woodmere Fire Department ambulance.

The fire has been deemed non-suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.

About 65 firefighters with 18 trucks from the Woodmere, Meadowmere Park, Hewlett, Valley Stream and Lynbrook Fire Departments were on the scene at Prospect Avenue, as well as Nassau County police officers and fire marshals.

The windows in the two-story house were blown out and the inside of the house was charred.

A married couple and a 4-year-old child were living on the first floor, according to  American Red Cross Nassau Chapter spokesman Sam Kille. "Our volunteers are on Prospect Avenue in Woodmere to help a family displaced by a fire," the American Red Cross Nassau Chapter's Facebook page said. "They will stay with friends but we are helping them with funds for food and clothing."
