Brooklyn Man Arrested After Pursuit, Assault in Cedarhurst

The defendant, Michael Wright, allegedly assaulted two police officer during the pursuit.

A Brooklyn man was arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers after a chase on Tuesday in Cedarhurst.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 12:50 p.m., after having his account blocked at the Citibank on Central Avenue, the defendant, Michael Wright, 22, was asked by bank personnel to respond to the bank to discuss his account.

Wright was the subject of prior fraudulent activities and upon his arrival the police were notified, police said.

According to police, two Fourth Precinct officers responded to the scene and when Wright observed them, he fled the bank. A foot chase ensued and during the process of chasing, apprehending and securing Wright, both officers sustained injuries necessitating treatment at a local hospital. Both officers were treated and released.

Wright is being charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, grand larceny in the third degree and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court, Hempstead.
