Car Fire Put Out by Woodmere FD

Blaze shut down Peninsula Boulevard for a half hour early Tuesday.

The was alerted to a car fire at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on Peninsula Boulevard west of Longacre Avenue.

Volunteers pulled a hose line and extinguished the fire without incident, according to Len Cherson of the Woodmere FD. There was extensive damage to the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

A malfunction with the vehicle's engine apparently started the blaze in the Ford mini van, according to Chief Joseph Sperber.

Police closed down Peninsula Boulevard for about a half hour while the vehicle and debris were cleared from the scene, and traffic resumed by 6:35 a.m.
