Construction Workers at Staples Robbed at Gunpoint

Three men made off with payroll money, police say.

Three armed men on Wednesday robbed construction workers at the Sandy-damaged Staples store on Rockaway Turnpike, police said.

At about 6:40 p.m., a 28-year-old female victim went to the front of the store, at 345 Rockaway Turnpike, to retrieve supplies when she saw two unknown black male subjects, according to police. One of the men, displaying a handgun, ordered her to the rear of the store where a 30-year-old male victim was conducting payroll services. A second subject arrived and both men demanded money from the male victim. The third subject was also in the rear of the store.

After the subjects obtained an unknown amount of money, they fled on foot eastbound towards Rockaway Turnpike. No injuries were reported.

Subject one is described as about 25 years old, 5-foot-10-inches tall, 160 pounds and wearing a grey wool hat, grey sweater and blue jeans. The second subject is about 30 years old, 5-foot-9-inches tall, 180 pounds and dark skinned, with short braids, a beard and wearing a red jacket and blue jeans. There is no further description of the third subject.
