Cops: Attempted Bank Robbery Nearby

Police are hunting for a man who tried to rob a Dime Savings Bank in Valley Stream Saturday morning, according to Nassau County Police.

An unknown man went to Dime Savings Bank at 175 West Merrick Road in Valley Stream and passed the teller a demand note, cops reported. The teller told the would-be bank robber that she did not have any money to give him and the subject fled, cops said. He reportedly headed north on Fletcher Avenue without any proceeds, police reported.

Seven employees and one customer were present at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported, cops said.

Detectives described the subject as a black man in his 30s, about six feet tall, wearing a Baltimore Orioloes baseball cap, a black jacket with wide orange and white stripes, acid washed blue jeans, and white sneakers.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this incident to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
