Two brothers were arrested early Wednesday after they allegedly tried to steal car keys from an 18-year-old woman in Inwood, police said.
At 1:45 a.m., Tyhei Corley, 34, of Hempstead, and Keith Corley Jr., 32, of Farmingdale, were in a 2006 Dodge with the female victim at Burnside Avenue and Doughty Boulevard. Police said an argument ensued and the victim told the pair to get out of the vehicle.
Keith Corley Jr. then allegedly grabbed the keys from the ignition, according to police. A struggle then started as the victim tried to get the keys back. The key fell to the floor and Tyhei Corley allegedly picked it up and left the vehicle.
Keith Corley Jr. allegedly hit the victim in the face and forcibly removed the remaining keys from her hand, according to police. The victim got out of the vehicle and Keith Corley Jr. got into the driver’s seat and tried to start the car, but did not have the key.
Fourth Precinct police officers arrived and after an investigation placed the two brothers into custody. No injuries were reported.
Both defendants were charged with second-degree robbery.
