Cops: Hewlett Man Broke Into Neighbors' Apartments

Jonathan R. Hoffman allegedly stole jewelry and cash from two residents of his apartment complex.

A Hewlett man was arrested on Monday after he allegedly entered two of his neighbors’ apartments using keys and stole an unknown amount of assorted jewelry and cash, according to police.

Jonathan R. Hoffman, 41, of the apartment building at 67 Prospect Avenue, allegedly duplicated a key he had found to his 86-year-old neighbor’s apartment. He then apparently went into her apartment six times between Oct. 21, 2011, and Nov. 7, 2011.

Hoffman also allegedly entered another apartment in the complex using a key he had stolen from a 48-year-old woman, police said. When confronted by the victim he claimed to be an exterminator and left the apartment.

Proceeds from the burglaries included an unknown amount of assorted jewelry and cash.

Upon further investigation, police discovered that Hoffman had forged two prescriptions for Oxycodone, which he had attempted to fill from an unrelated case.

He was arrested at 4:05 p.m. on Monday at his residence.

The defendant is charged with seven counts of second-degree Burglary, two counts of possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and first-degree identity theft. He was arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Great, I've seen this guy in my complex. How disgusting to do this to your neighbors.... You just can't trust anyone.
