Cops: Man Loses Control of Car, Drives into Water in East Rockaway

A man drove into the water in East Rockaway after suffering from a possible seizure Sunday, according to Nassau County Police.

Cops said a 24-year-old man was driving near Dock Street and Althouse Avenue when he had a “medical episode” at the wheel. The man, who has not been identified, lost control of the 2005 Cadillac and drove it into the water, officials said. The incident happened at 9:05 a.m. Sunday, cops reported.

The victim was able to escape the car on his own and get out of the water, cops said. He was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police reported.

The car was removed from the water. No criminality is suspected.

Officials said the man may have had a seizure at the wheel.

Fourth Precinct officers, marine units, and a emergency services unit responded to the scene.
