[Updated] Cops: Man Threatened to Blow Up Community Center

Sweep of Inwood building turned up negative.

An Inwood man was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly threatened to blow up the Five Towns Community Center in Inwood, police said.

According to police, Neil Thompson, 33, entered the Five Towns Community Center, located at 270 Lawrence Ave., around 10:20 a.m. and approached the man sitting at the front desk. Thompson then allegedly told the man "that he had nuclear bombs and was going to blow the place up," police said. The witness then notified police.

Police officers found Thompson on the second floor of the community center and placed him under arrest at 10:35 a.m. He is charged with falsely reporting an incident in the first degree and will be arraigned on Thursday.

About 20 minutes earlier, Thompson was apparently seen by a witness in the parking lot of 135 Lawrence Ave. randomly smashing a car window on a 1994 Geo Sedan and then kicking a 1995 Nissan Quest, causing dents on the car, police said.

Police also found materials used to make fireworks in Thompson’s residence, "the possession of which is not illegal," police said. The materials were removed.
