Crimes Nearby: Babysitter Steals $10K, Mugging on Rosedale Road

A rundown of arrests and incidents that occurred in the past week in areas surrounding the Five Towns.

An Oceanside woman was arrested on Saturday for allegedly stealing jewelry, silver and cash from her employer's East Rockaway home.

According to Fourth Squad detectives, Mirjana Cindric, 30, while working as a babysitter on Main Street, stole approximately $10,000 worth of items and money from Nov. 28, 2011 through Feb. 13.

On Feb. 17, police assisted in the recovery of jewelry and silver items from A&A Goldbuyer in East Meadow, IC Gold/OK Pawn Brokers in Baldwin and Enterprise Pawnbrokers located in Elmont, all belonging to the victims.

Cindric was arrested in front of her home. At the time of her arrest, she was in possession of two stolen credit cards and an OK Pawn Brokers loan receipt on a diamond ring, belonging to her former employers.

Two young adults were injured Saturday morning when they crashed into a bridge on Woodfield Road in Lakeview as they tried to avoid an alleged drunk driver.

The responded to the accident at 5:10 a.m. on March 3. The vehicle hit the side of the bridge after the driver swerved to avoid slamming head-on into a SUV, which allegedly was being driven by a drunk driver, Lakeview Assistant Fire Chief Heather Senti told Patch.

The driver and passenger, one male and one female, suffered minor injuries and were rushed to Winthrop Hospital in a Lakeview ambulance.

According to Senti, the driver of the SUV fled the scene prior to the arrival of both the Lakeview Fire Department and Nassau County Police.

A spokesperson for the Nassau County Police said the driver was not located and that the car was impounded.

Pair Mugged at Rosedale Road Chase

A man armed with a handgun held up a pair of people on Thursday at the Chase on Rosedale Road in Valley Stream and got away with their cash, according to police.

At 4:35 a.m. on March 1, a 70-year-old man and 68-year-old woman exiting the Chase at 930 Rosedale Road were approached by an unknown male black subject armed with a silver handgun. The subject then demanded money.

After the perpetrator obtained an unknown amount of cash, he fled on foot westbound on Rosedale Road to southbound 262nd place. No injuries were reported.

The subject is described as having a thin build and wearing a gray jacket and gray sweatpants.

A 9-year-old Lakeview girl was harassed by a strange man while walking home from school Thursday, according to police.

Nassau County Police's Fifth Squad detectives are investigating the unusual incident that occurred around 4 p.m. on March 1.

According to detectives, a 9-year-old female victim was exiting the bus from school at Pinelake Drive and Champlain Avenue when an unknown male yelled out to her, saying, "come here."

She then became frightened and began to run home, but says the subject started walking rapidly behind her. When the victim entered her home, she looked out the window and observed that the man was no longer there. She relayed the incident to her mother, who then called the police. Cops were called to their home to document the occurrence.

The suspect is described as about 5-foot-5-inches tall and wearing a blue jacket.

Cops: Woman Busted for Stealing Car

An Elmont woman was arrested by Nassau Police in Rockville Centre Wednesday night after stealing a car from a couple in Hempstead.

According to detectives, Jessica Morrow, 28, of Elmont, threatened a 28-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man with a kitchen knife at Wings and Things in Hempstead. Morrow allegedly then took the keys from the woman’s 1999 Mercedes Benz and fled the scene.

Officers later arrested Morrow in the parking lot of Mercy Medical Center without incident.
